Fashion Forward

Photography Julia LynnPhotos 16Issue December 2022
A pair of jeweled firedogs inspired by Van Cleef & Arpels earrings are but one example of the clever couture-driven designs found in a not-so-traditional Federal-style manse South of Broad.Fashion ForwardSurprise Inside: Expect the unexpected upon entering this genteel South of Broad mansion. The dramatic foyer sets the stage for a house where each room is a revelation—the design equivalent of a box of chocolates. Dominated by a black-and-white marble floor and a monochromatic Stark stair runner, the space draws visitors in with the alluring eyes of Kate Moss in a mixed-media piece, Fashion Breaks My Heart by SN, juxtaposed with an antique Japanese screen from the late 19th century.Gallerist Glam: The formal living room is a showpiece space, displaying the client’s favorite fashion and art collections.A dazzling Yves Klein coffee table made with 3,000 sheets of gold leaf sits in front of the Coco Chanel-inspired sofa upholstered in a warm Kirkby fabric and accented by Sabina Fay Braxton and Scalamandré fabric on the throw pillows. A Karl Benjamin oil painting above the sofa adds a pop of color, and a pair of Jean de Merry “Lora” chairs and two ottomans embroidered with Chanel’s favorite flower, camellias, ━ provide more places to perch and admire the decor.Pattern Play: A Stark leopard-print carpet ties this room of contrasts together. Calming floral wallpaper is countered by the bold bronze ibex-head table bases, and two vintage Anne Hauck cabinets with bronze inlay add weight to the room.PEEKABoo: Inspired by a photograph of Pauline de Rothschild, Rosenfeld continued the Aux Abris “Botanical-Silk” wallpaper over the door to the kitchen.PALETTE CLEANSER: Aerin “Agnes” pendants in “plaster” illuminate a white marble countertop in the sleek and intentionally spare kitchen. Luxurious Maison Drucker cane rattan stools and chairs from Paris add a touch of style to the simple space. The “Jungle Room” pairs a bold Phillip Jeffries wallpaper with touches of emerald green fabric in the chairs, lampshades, and window coverings. A lacquered goatskin coffee table by Karl Springer on a cream Mark Nelson Designs area rug softens the drama of the room.GREEN With Envy: This striking “Agate” mica-coated paper by Aux Abris has an luminescent quality that lights up the small, first-floor powder room. A black marble floor and vanity are complemented by black-and-white photography, letting the walls take center stage.Scene Stealer: Slim Aarons’s 1959 photograph Beauty and the Beast is the centerpiece for the guest room. The golds and browns of the Casamance wallpaper are highlighted in the playful portrait and the Randolph & Hein “Taza” table.A fur-covered Sabot ottoman from Formations continues the animal theme, while the bed’s pale green fabric from Osborne & Little softens the effect.Cherry Blossom Dreams: Pattern and color play continue in the primary bedroom, which is dominated by a Rose Tarlow post bed, its dark wood offset by a floral Élitis wallpaper. The bright and airy fourth bedroom is on the top floor, tucked behind the lunette window.Pretty in Pink: The client’s daughter’s room in pale pinks and grays is livened by a mirrored dresser and leopard-print carpet.Hang Time: The top floor, a converted attic, is open and modern with a New York loft-style vibe and plenty of spots for the client’s teenage daughter and her friends to gather. A favorite is this “Bubble” chair from Modholic and window seat covered in fabric from Nobilis and pillows wrapped in material by Kirkby Design and Zinc Textile.
