Step Inside a Charleston Single Infused with Eclectic English Charm and Elegance

Drawing on time spent in the Cotswolds, New York, and Charleston, hotelier Jason Reeves has infused his Harleston Village single house with moody color, collected antiques, and a narrative-driven approach to interiors that blurs the line between home and hospitality.Collected Comfort: The whimsically decorated Charleston single house reflects Jason Reeves’s “English eclectic” sensibility, mixing periods, patterns, and color.Shared with his daughter, Cricket, the home also serves as a testing ground for ideas that shape the decor of Highlander Mountain House, his boutique hotel in North Carolina.Layered Living: The front parlor is warm and inviting, rife with antiques, collectibles, and art gathered from Reeves’s travels, such as this English leather Chippendale sofa and plaster hand sculpture from Pentreath & Hall in London.William Morris “Willow Boughs” wallpaper brings a nature-inspired rhythm to the space, while trim painted in Farrow & Ball “Inchyra Blue” deepens the palette, creating a rich backdrop for the furnishings and art, including a romantic, 18th-century oil painting of a Scottish landscape and English barley twist candle holders on the mantel.A Rich Tapestry: An English oak secretary that Reeves purchased from Alex Raskin Antiques in Savannah houses his record player and vinyl collection. A 18th-century Aubusson Verdure tapestry reinforces the room’s blue and green color palette.Moody Hues: The dining room forms the dramatic heart of the home, wrapped in the fantastical House of Hackney “Arborea” wallpaper. A large abstract painting by Doug Higgins anchors the space, its dark palette offset by the light pine of a 1970s Rainer Daumiller dining set, which is topped by a color-matched Pierce & Ward pleated raw silk pendant. A Rush House braided sea-grass rug adds rustic texture underfoot.Flanking the central fireplace, two antique chairs covered in a French Aubusson tapestry create distinct vignettes: one beside an English chest repurposed as a bar......the other in a nook where Reeves’s banjo sits at the ready. An Artful Retreat: The colorful den at the rear of the home, part of a later addition, features paneled walls painted in Farrow & Ball “Oval Room Blue” and adorned with art, including local artist Jill Hooper’s Drawing of Headdress, alongside antique pieces.Cozy Elegance: Pillows wrapped in a burnt orange “Brer Rabbit” linen from Morris & Co. sink into leather French club chairs on either side of the fireplace. Facing an overstuffed antique love seat, the arrangement creates a shabby-chic feel reminiscent of an English country house. An English campaign chest serves as a bar, topped by a French rococo gilt mirror, surrounded by vintage Black Forest roe deer antlers.Garden View: A breakfast nook off the kitchen echoes the William Morris “Willow Boughs” wallpaper from the parlor, here offering green tones that complement the courtyard garden outside. An Akari rice paper lantern hangs above a well-worn, Southern pine kitchen table, accompanied by hand-painted, 19th-century Sheraton chairs and armchairs.Cheerfully Chillaxed: Upstairs, the primary suite embraces a modern, casual vibe. A Serena & Lily rattan wicker bedroom set stands out against the soft Farrow & Ball “Kakelugn” blue walls, offering a peek into Reeves’s more relaxed side.A deep blue Moroccan flat-weave rug frames a second abstract piece by Doug Higgins, adding a touch of drama. In Cricket’s room, a Benjamin Moore “Emerald Isle”-painted fireplace surround pops against the Farrow & Ball “Middleton Pink” walls.
