Hope on Goat

March 25, 2017 The Party: Upon arrival at the Isle of Palms Marina, guests boarded ferries to reach the secluded, boat-access-only Goat Island for this year’s Hope on Goat fundraiser benefitting Fresh Future Farm, a nonprofit that grows and sells produce in North Charleston. Once on the sandy beaches of the secret hideaway, children swung from low-hanging palms while parents and friends enjoyed fire-grilled oysters and steaming bowls of fish stew—courtesy of Barrier Island Eco Tours—that could be topped with the farm’s fresh cilantro, lettuce, or salsa. Local bluegrass bands set the mood as guests participated in a silent auction offering a bounty of Charleston-made goods and services. Highlight: Fresh Future Farm founder Germaine Jenkins’s inspiring speech on her mission to provide access to fruits and vegetables in the midst of a food desert Overheard: “This is hands-down the best fish stew I’ve ever had.” Beneficiary: Fresh Future Farm
