Gibbes on the Street: Food is art

May 4, 2017 The Party: A rainy night didn’t dampen this year’s alfresco fête, Gibbes on the Street: Food is Art, which welcomed 600 hungry attendees and 30 participating chefs for an evening of cuisine, champagne, and dancing. Under an expansive tent in the Gibbes’ courtyard, elegantly dressed guests dined on dishes directly inspired by works in the museum’s collection and cooked by the chefs of Oak Steakhouse, Obstinate Daughter, and many more. While the band Minimum Wage had people grooving on the dance floor, other guests broke away from the party to explore the museum after hours. Highlight: Seared lamb chops with a chimichurri aioli from Matthew Niessner of Halls Chophouse and SNOB Overheard: “I’ll take six more, please!” —a guest munching on Circa 1886’s mini tacos Beneficiary: The Gibbes Museum of Art Photographs (6) by Stetson Newman
