Folly Beach Wahine: July 30 & 31, 2022
The Party: Female surfers from across the East Coast converged at The Washout to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Folly Beach Wahine Classic, named after the Hawaiian word for "surfer girl." The competition kicked off on Saturday as more than 225 amateurs and pros ages two to 70 took to the waves, competing in both shortboard and longboard categories, as well as the “Teenie Wahine” and “Goddess” (over 50) divisions. After Sunday’s final heats, top performers were recognized during an awards ceremony, followed by a community beach sweep. The Wahine Classic aims to empower women while raising funds and awareness for local simpatico nonprofits, including Surfers Healing and the local chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
