A Different Perspective

Photography Katie CharlottePhotos 16Issue JULY 2020
A Different PerspectiveCastaway: Clad in traditional tabby, a “coastal concrete” made of oyster shell, this Isle of Palms stunner sits on a large, slightly elevated lot. Ample outdoor spaces take full advantage of the spectacular views.Ocean Bound: This statement-making courtyard and the spiral staircase beyond lead up to a patio featuring an oyster shell fireplace. With the Tide: Situated on the top floor, the main living space is dominated by a fireplace set in “Blue Tides” granite from AGM Imports. Horsehair grasscloth wallpaper in “Clydesdale” by Phillip Jeffries continues the textural feel evoked by the stone’s veining. Leather sofas from Verellen and Osborne & Little fabric-clad club chairs by Holly Hunt lend warmth and comfort to the scene, illuminated by Cartwright New York’s hand-brushed brass “Otto Luce” chandelier.Golden Hues: In the open-plan living/kitchen space, the ceiling of honey-colored, hand-placed sunken cypress planks contrasts beautifully with the custom cabinetry painted in “Down Pipe” by Farrow & Ball. A vibrant tile backsplash, clad in “Hip Herringbone Detroit Blues” by Artistic Tile, sits under a custom exhaust hood made by Handcrafted Metal. Three McGuire rattan stools at the island offer occupants a view through the sliding window pass-through to the dining porch.Viewfinder: With multiple porches, there’s always somewhere to sit and soak up the views. But the dining porch, complete with a custom oval concrete and elm table by Clubcu and JANUS et Cie Mood chairs, tops them all.A Different PerspectivePretty pockets of lush greenery are scattered around the homeThe dramatically painted dining room with a porcelain and brass chandelier by Apparatus“Fantasy Brown” marble pops against glossy cabinets in the wet bar/guest corridorCustom bunk beds by William C. Pritchard Co., painted in Farrow & Ball’s “Inchyra Blue.”The large, double guest room is layered in blues, from the FAYCE Textiles bed skirts and shams to the ombré blue rug sourced in MoroccoA black Alape basin and ceiling-hung faucet in the powder roomCool Comfort: In the first-floor family room, an Amadi Carpets rug ties together an eclectic collection of furniture dominated by a Verellen sectional with matching ottomans. Kelly Wearstler for Visual Comfort sconces frame a black-and-white geometric painting by Brian Coleman from The George Gallery.Into the Deep: A wood ceiling painted in a custom green hue encapsulates this cozy master bedroom, replete in deep blues that mimic the ocean beyond. A sunken cypress door and the “Remus” saucer pendant light by Arteriors contrast with the wallpaper, designed by Apparatus in collaboration with ZAK+FOX, that provides a soothing backdrop for a peaceful night’s rest.Shell Game: Stainless steel, textile-wrapped lounge chairs and a sofa from JANUS et Cie complement the simple yet dramatic second-floor porch, with its hand-thrown, oyster-shell fireplace and limestone flooring.
