Jimmy Red corn is central to the story of High Wire Distilling Co., which celebrates its 10th anniversary this month. The onetime moonshiner’s corn was nearly extinct in the early aughts when a farmer with just two cobs began the arduous process of cultivating a crop. Today, the company distills the heirloom into its prized flagship Bourbon.Husband and wife Scott Blackwell and Ann Marshall cofounded High Wire Distilling Co. a decade ago and moved to new digs on Huger Street in February 2020. ”It’s fun to work toward something together,” says Ann.Shark Tooth Hunting: “I was raised on the beaches of South Carolina and cannot step foot on a sandy shore without scouring for these treasures.” —AnnFolk Art: “I’ve been collecting Southern folk art since the ’80s. To me, it’s the ultimate form of creativity, storytelling, and inspiration.” —ScottTrekking: “I love spending time in nature. We have made a habit of hiking in Arizona the last few winters and can’t get enough of those red rock vistas.” —AnnUnder Sail: “Our top vacation is sailing in the British Virgin Islands. There’s no better way to reset than cruising from island to island and experiencing our favorite little harbors.” —ScottDistillery Dog: “Last year, we welcomed a yellow Lab pup into the family. Mavis is a distillery dog in training. She has a long way to go, but she’s an endless source of amusement.” —Ann
